‘Open Lab’ established with $8m seed funding for new research

In January 2010, GSK provided further detail about how the company would build on its promise to share its resources. The pharmaceutical company announced the establishment of the Tres Cantos Open Lab to act as an engine room of scientific innovation for diseases of the developing world. Visiting researchers will be based at the company’s dedicated diseases of the developing world research centre in the Tres Cantos Campus, Spain.

To help fund the research and facilitate better sharing of knowledge and ideas, GSK donated an initial seed investment of $8m to establish a not-for-profit foundation, The Tres Cantos Open Lab Foundation.
